Trust
Many times we find ourselves wondering, "who can I trust?" Few can remember a time when you shake a man's hand to seal a deal, that meant that it was his word and he would follow through on it. You didn't have to sign three signatures to prove who you are or a promissory note to show that you promise to pay a loan back. It used to be simple but now, our trust has been broken. We find that fact in our jobs, in our daily business transactions, in our major corporations, and in every day relationships. But who should our trust fully be in? Recently I had to learn who my trust could fully be in. God really put into my heart that many times, we put our trust more in the person who sits next to us in church or a family member than Him. A scripture that He led me to was Psalms 118:8 which reads; "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.(NLT)" God's set up for our lives is not to rely on man. Don't get me wrong, it's okay to get advice and talk to anyone about anything if you are at peace about it. However, some things are best left to the professional. God wants you to rely on Him fully and completely. I had to chuckle when I read out of the New Living Translation Isaiah 2:22, "Don’t put your trust in mere humans. They are as frail as breath. What good are they?" The prophet Isaiah said, "What good are they?" What is he saying? I believe he is saying that people are finicky, demanding, and, picky. They want what they want and they will do what they want to do to get it. Does that sound familiar? Recently I had my trust shaken in someone I felt that I could trust in. Unfortunately, trust is an issue that I have had to battle with for the majority of my life. I have a problem with people who are not full of integrity. Now, you are probably wondering why I have to bring this up now in the middle of a teaching. It's very vital that you understand that no matter what title you have in life, you will have battles and you will have to learn where to put your trust. In Proverbs 3:4-8, we are given the benefits of trusting in God; "Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones." The true benefits of placing your trust in God are simple; God will give you favor, God will make your path in life well known to you and plain, God will give you strength, and God will heal your body. It sounds so simple to do; trust in God and it will all work out. The Psalmist David wrote, "My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth." David looked to the Father for his help and trusted that He would deliver. Who are we putting our trust in today? Are we trusting the government to bail us out? Are we trusting in our churches to meet our needs? Are relying on our employer to supply for our finances? Are we trusting our banks to give us loans? Are we trusting our neighbor to not sin against us? I always like to pose a question in these types of teachings, who are you trusting in today? Put your trust in God and He will do all those things that we have discussed for you and so much more.
