Unplugged | Social Unnetworking

Recently, I found myself in a place that I find myself once every few months if not years and that is to unplug myself from the computer.  I don't know if you have experienced it but I have been overloaded with social networking.  Somehow in our culture, we have opened ourselves to be completely free.  We express our freedom of religion, our rights, our opinions, and that it is completely acceptable to place it all free to where all can see it.  Our culture has weened itself from a simple cup of coffee and the Bible or newspaper to let's catch up on the latest gossip on the new feeds.  I am not saying that social media is evil because simply put, it is not.  We have great advantages of social media but what is unhealthy is that many of  us have 300 + "friends" on these social medias where most of them we haven't seen in decades, some who wouldn't be our "friend" in real life but for the sake of numbers add you, and a few that we see on a day to day basis.  I have been challenged in this area because I have noticed that this freedom is often carried without the thought of the consequence.  We don't tend to see the addiction and the consequence of that addiction.  More than ever, we need to find balance.  In 1 Corinthians 10:23 it says "You say, "I am allowed to do anything"--but not everything is helpful. You say, "I am allowed to do anything"--but not everything is beneficial." What Paul was saying is "sure I can do all these things but I know it is not always helpful for me to do it."  We know that it is not evil tto be online, to play video games, and many other things but what would happen if you and I began to unplug from social media, video games, and get plugged into the Holy Spirit.
