Roots

Well, today I was working out in our new yard trying to pull these dogon weeds. It was there I received a revelation: It's hard isn't it? Trying to pull the weed from the ground and not having the tools to do it.

That floored me. God revealed to me something that I had been working on for the past several months (hence the reasons why the postings for this Bible study have ceased). If you are going to get rid of a root, whether it be a root of rejection or a root of bitterness, whatever the root is you need the right tool to pull it out. Many would use a weed wacker. But that only kills the surface of the problem, you still have the root in the ground and it will grow back. Some would use a weed killer and that will kill the weed for now but next summer, it will return. Then there is the hand shovel. If you get under the root and shovel it out, it is gone and never will it return. In order to get the root of whatever out, you have to find your shovel and dig. Now, there is balance in this, don't go digging for something that you "think" is there and really it isn't. Don't conjour up something that you have been "feeling" and end up causing yourself heartache. In my case, the root of rejection was a major problem in my life. I thank God that in the mist of a trial, He revealed that to me. The shovel I used to dig it up was plenty of prayer and the Word of God. In Psalms David wrote, " Although my father and my mother have forsaken me, yet the Lord will take me up [adopt me as His child]." Now, I am not saying my father or mother forsook me but what I am saying is that even if (fill in the blank) have forsaken me, yet the Lord will take me up. That root of rejection is now being dug up and cast. In Matthew we read, "He said to them, Because of the littleness of your faith [that is, your lack of firmly relying trust]. For truly I say to you, if you have faith [ that is living] like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to yonder place, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.". The faith that I have in Christ has without a doubt allowed me to rip this rejection up and cast it into the sea. What about your root? Are you ready to cast it? Another revealtion that I had on this journey was about hair. Now hear me out on this one, I thought it was goofy until it was explained. Many women who are going gray begin to try to hide it. They comb it over but when the wind blows, it appears again. Some people try to cut it off but to no avail, it returns a few weeks later full grown with a few friends. There is now a population of women and now men that color their hair to cover the gray. Shortly after a few months, it will appear again with a new tip of color. But one may find out a great adventure when they pluck the hair from the very root. That root is there no longer and will not grow again. Now, I am not saying go pluck out every root in your head that is gray. It's just a metaphore. I found it comical to see that we like to "color" our roots to cover up the issue at hand. It's time to pluck that root and move on.
