You Are Under A Rest

Recently, Sara and I have been embattled in our finances and we know that it is a strategic plan from the enemy to get us off course of what God wants from us. I have truly been overwhelmed, in a sense, with the responses from God's people on their own trials and something I believe God is calling on the church to do in this time of warfare is rest. It's contradictory to say be at peace in the state of war, but your mind is more clear and able to be strategic when you are at rest. The word "rest" in Psalms 37:7 derives from the Hebrew word "damam" which means "to be or grow dumb, silent or still." Selah and think on that. Is God calling us to be "dumb, silent or still?" In Psalms 46:10, the phrase "be still" derives from the Hebrew word "raphah" which means to "to be quiet". I find it amazing, being a nerd type that I am, that the word "rapha" meaning "healer" is so close to "raphah" meaning "dumb, silent or still." God is calling us to be "dumb" so that He can work on the situation. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus said "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." What would happen to you and I if we brought all of our issues, all of our problems to God and said "here they are! You can have them?!" In 1 Peter 5:6-7, Peter wrote "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you." Before you can get the rest, you have to be humble enough to say, "Hey, I can't do it on my own (see John 15:5) so I am going to lay it here and move on." So often people use the crutch, "Oh God! You said that you wouldn't give me more than I can bear..." You know you have said it too. Something you have to do in order to not carry more than you can bear, lay it down and you won't be carrying it. In this season that God is calling the church into, I pray that you will find your "rest" in God in any circumstance because you are officially under a rest!
