Hide and Seek

Today I was sitting at the desk, drinking a cup of coffee, and watching the girls play around the house.  For a while, I haven't really seen them much with overtime at work and the Easter production.  Sara had already gone out for the morning with her mom and niece to garage sale.  We had been already been up a while and they were already wound up.  I hear in the background "1....2....4....6....3..."  Yeah, we're teaching them to count.  Maleah shouted "ready or not, here I come!"  Of course, neither one know that the game hide and seek takes much more than just seeking.  Maleah would be in the hallway and Joanna would be right next to her.  "I found you!"  Maleah shouted.

It's a cute story but there's meaning behind this every day life event.  What if we treated God the same way?  What if God was counting while you are "hiding?"  God chuckles because it's obvious that you can't hide from God.  But He plays your game anyway because He loves you and wants to find you.  In Genesis, Adam and Eve played the same game with God. In Genesis 3:8, " And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden." In verse 9, "But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?"  It always has intrigued me that God asked Adam where he was. The all knowing God desired to have relationship with the one He created.  I believe that this is a depiction of how sin divided us from a relationship from God before the cross.  God would call out to His children and they would not hear His voice because of the separation.

When Christ died on the cross, it was as if God said "I found you!"  It's a childish way to look at it but as I was watching our girls, I had that thought come to mind.  What if when Christ died, the all knowing God called out to us and said "I found you!"  Even though we were walking beside Him, so to speak, the whole time, He desired to have that close of a relationship with us.

Are you playing the game of hide and seek but letting God be the only one seeking?  My prayer is this:  Start counting......and say, "ready or not, here I come!"
